InstantTools

The same tools, without the upload

Most online tools work by sending your file to a server, processing it there, and promising to delete it afterwards. InstantTools runs the processing engine in your browser instead, so the file never leaves your device. Here is how that compares with the sites you already know.

The one difference behind every comparison

Every site on this page does real work, and most of them do more jobs than we do. The difference is where the work happens. On an upload-based site, your file travels to a server you do not control, gets processed there, and comes back. The site then deletes its copy on a schedule set by its own policy.

InstantTools sends the processing engine to your browser instead. The PDF, image, audio, and AI engines download to your browser and run on your own device. Your file is read from your disk, changed in memory, and saved back to your disk. No copy exists anywhere else, so there is nothing to delete and no policy to trust.

That trade has costs, and each comparison says so. Your device does the heavy lifting, so an old phone is slower on big files. Our AI tools download a model the first time you use them. And we cover fewer jobs than the biggest sites.

How we checked

On October 4, 2026, we chose a small test PDF on the Compress PDF pages of iLovePDF, Smallpdf, and PDF24 and recorded every request each page sent. The PDF carried a unique line of text, so we could spot it in any request. All three sent the whole file to a server within a second of choosing it, before we clicked anything else. The method and full results are in Where does your PDF go when you compress it online?

We have not run that test on remove.bg, TinyWow, or Convertio. Those pages describe how each service works using only its own public pages, and say so.

Our side of the claim is tested on every code change. An open-source audit loads each InstantTools file tool, gives it a file with a marker inside, and fails if any network request contains the file's bytes. You can read the code and run it against the live site yourself: no-upload-audit on GitHub. Or open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and watch a tool work. It takes thirty seconds.

The comparisons

InstantTools vs iLovePDFThe biggest PDF site, with the longest feature list. In our October 2026 test, its Compress PDF page sent the whole file to its upload API the moment it was chosen.InstantTools vs SmallpdfA polished subscription service with a daily free limit. In our test, the file landed in a cloud storage bucket within a second of choosing it.InstantTools vs PDF24Free and broad. Its Windows desktop app works offline, but its website uploads, and in our test it sent the file as soon as it was chosen.InstantTools vs remove.bgThe site that made one-click cutouts famous, now part of Canva. It uploads your photo. Ours runs an AI model on your device after a one-time 170 MB download.InstantTools vs TinyWowOver 200 free tools with no signup, all running on its servers. We have fewer tools, and each one keeps your file on your device.InstantTools vs ConvertioA cloud converter for more than 300 formats. We cover the common conversions and do them on your device, with no file-size tiers.

When an upload-based site is the better pick

We would rather you pick the right tool than pick ours. Use an upload-based site when the format is rare and we do not support it, when you need to process hundreds of files through an API, or when your device is too slow for the job and the file is nothing private. Use InstantTools when the file is a contract, a medical record, a bank statement, an ID scan, or anything else you would not hand to a stranger.
