A Convertio alternative that never uploads your files
Convertio converts between more than 300 formats by uploading your files to its servers. InstantTools handles the common jobs, like image formats, JPG to PDF, CSV to JSON, and video compression, directly in your browser with no file-size paywall.
Where your file goes
Convertio is a cloud converter. Files upload to its servers, convert there, and download back. Its privacy policy says input files are deleted right after conversion, converted files are deleted after a set time, and files are kept in the EU. Free use has limits. Paid plans add conversion credits, ad-free pages, and larger file-size caps on the higher tiers.
InstantTools converts on your device. The practical limit is your device's memory, not a pricing tier, and there is no upload to wait for. A 200 MB video never has to leave your laptop to get compressed.

When Convertio is the better choice
You need an unusual format. Convertio supports more than 300 formats, with separate converters for ebooks, audio, and video. We cover the common image, PDF, and data jobs.
Your computer is slow or the file is huge. Convertio does the work in the cloud, so your machine does not have to. Converting a long video in a browser tab takes as long as your processor needs.
You want a conversion API. Convertio offers one for developers. We do not.
The same jobs, done locally
How to convert an image format in your browser
- Open the Image Converter and pick the format you want: JPG, PNG, or WebP.
- Drop in your image. PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, and BMP all work.
- The conversion runs in your browser right away. There is no upload bar because there is no upload.
- Download the new file. To try another format, switch the target and the same image converts again. No need to add it twice.
- Going to JPG? JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.
Honest questions
Does InstantTools support as many formats?
No. Convertio's list of more than 300 formats is far broader. InstantTools covers the conversions people run most often, and does them without the upload and without size-tier pricing.
Is local conversion faster?
For images, documents, and data files, usually yes. A server round trip sends the file twice, up and then back down, and local conversion skips both trips. Long videos are the exception: a server with fast hardware can finish the encode sooner than a laptop, even after the upload.
What happens to files I upload to Convertio?
Its privacy policy says input files are deleted right after conversion and converted files are deleted automatically after a set time, or sooner if you delete them yourself. That is a reasonable policy, and it is still a policy you have to trust. With InstantTools the question does not come up, because the file stays on your device.
Is there a file-size limit here?
No fixed one. The limit is your device's memory. Desktop browsers handle large files well. Phones run out of memory sooner.
Verify it yourself
Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use any InstantTools file tool. After the page and its engine load, you will see no request carrying your file. That check takes thirty seconds and beats any privacy policy.
