What is LocalBusiness Schema?
LocalBusiness schema (schema.org/LocalBusiness) is structured data that tells search engines exactly where a business operates, when it is open, and how to contact it. It is one of the most impactful schema types for businesses with a physical presence — restaurants, retail stores, clinics, law firms, gyms — because it feeds directly into Google's local search knowledge graph and Maps integration.
Google uses LocalBusiness markup to populate the Knowledge Panel that appears on the right side of search results. When a user searches for your business name or category near their location, a properly marked-up page is far more likely to trigger the panel with hours, address, phone number, and a direct link. For voice search ("Is [business] open now?"), LocalBusiness schema is the primary data source.
Key properties include: name, address (with streetAddress, city, state, postalCode, country), telephone, openingHours, priceRange, and geo (with latitude/longitude). The schema also supports image, url, sameAs (links to your Yelp, Facebook, and TripAdvisor profiles), and aggregateRating. The more complete your markup, the richer the representation Google can build.
Always test LocalBusiness schema with Google's Rich Results Test after implementation. Ensure all data matches your Google Business Profile exactly — inconsistencies between the two can confuse Google and dilute your local ranking signals.
