HowTo schema (schema.org/HowTo) is structured data for instructional content — recipes, repair guides, tutorials, installation walkthroughs, and any content that walks a user through a series of steps. When Google validates your HowTo markup, it can show your steps directly in search results as a numbered list with the title and estimated time, dramatically increasing the visual footprint of your listing.

The schema supports rich properties: name (the guide title), description, estimatedCost, totalTime (in ISO 8601 duration format, e.g. PT30M for 30 minutes), supply (materials needed), tool (tools required), and a step array where each HowToStep has a name and text. Providing all of these gives Google more options for rich result formats — some formats show images per step, others show supply lists.
