What is Event Schema?

Event schema (schema.org/Event) enables your event pages to appear in Google's dedicated event search results — a rich carousel that shows the event name, date, venue, and ticket price directly in the SERP. When someone searches for "conferences in Austin this September" or "concerts near me this weekend," properly marked-up event pages are the primary candidates for this carousel.

Required properties include: name (the event title), startDate (ISO 8601 format, e.g. 2025-09-15T09:00:00), and location (with name and address). Highly recommended: endDate, description, organizer, offers (with ticket price and availability URL), image, and eventStatus (EventScheduled, EventCancelled, or EventPostponed). For online events, use VirtualLocation with url instead of a physical address.

The ticket price and availability are particularly important — they are what turns your schema entry into a clickable, actionable card. When Google can show "$299 — Tickets available" next to your event name, click-through rates improve significantly compared to a plain organic result. Use the offers property with price, priceCurrency, and url pointing to your ticket purchase page.

Event schema is also valuable for voice search. When someone asks a smart speaker about upcoming events in their area, Google's assistant pulls from marked-up event pages. Ensuring your startDate and location are accurate and up-to-date is essential — outdated event data can lead to Google removing your event from search results.
